*What is "Soul Food?"
Soul Food is the traditional African American cuisine that originated in the South of the United States. It consists of spicy ribs, collard greens, freshly cooked corn bread, black eye peas, and not to mention the best crispy fried chicken!
I went on the soul food and jazz evening with Harlem Spirituals and I would say it was definitely the highlight of my time in New York, Peggy our guide was fantastic- informative and welcoming and as a solo traveler she made me feel completely as ease. The dinner at Sylvia's was divine but it was the music and dancing at the Cotton Club that really made the night, such soul and grace, it was truly inspiring. I can not speak highly enough of both the entire evening and this company.

Harlem Spirituals offers numerous tours. My group decided to go on the Jazz Tour through Harlem. We choose this tour because we wanted a fun night out for our employees and that is exactly what we got! We all meet in front of Harlem Spirituals headquarters and from there got on the bus. The bus was beyond what I was expecting. The seats were comfortable, the AC worked and you could hear the tour guide over the microphone/sound system well. The tour had many interesting facts, much of which I did not know. We went passed central park, the Apollo and much more. Our first stop was at Sylvia's. I have never had Soul Food but my god it was good. There where family size portions and everything was delicious. When I think of fried chicken I think of KFC greasy chicken. Here, the chicken was perfect and it came with traditional sides like collard greens and corn bread. The dessert was TO DIE FOR. It was the most delicious thing I have ever tasted in my entire life. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. From there we went on more of a tour and down the Cotton Club. There was saw a many performances both big band and solo. They house a very special musician who is said to be the next BB King. What a treat right? The people there were very engaging and the tour came with 2 drinks on the house alcoholic and non alcoholic. WHAT A BONUS. Overall, I would say the tour was splendid and a perfect way to spend a Monday night!
Friendly knowledgeable guide who commented in French and English for our tour. After around 30 minutes driving around the southern end of Harlem we had dinner at Sylvia's which was tasty and filling, stopped briefly at the Apollo Theatre and then spent about 90 minutes at the latest incarnation of the Cotton Club. The 12 piece band for the most part seemed to be going through the motions and it seemed the club's glory days were long past. A worthwhile night however but I would be searching for a more intimate jazz venue next time.
Dear Goeff, Thank you for your review of our soul food and Jazz tour. Our tour is offered on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturday evenings with private tours that can take place on any day of the week. While the Cotton Club takes a traditional approach to Jazz music with a big band and dancers reminiscent of the 1920-40's era, we also include a variety of other local clubs in Harlem that offer different atmospheres and styles of Jazz music. The aim of our tour is to showcase the historic trajectory of Jazz music in Harlem and New York City and we continuously strive to improve our tour content. Your honest feedback is key to that process and will be strongly considered as we move forward with our Jazz tour. Sincerest regards, Erika Elisabeth Harlem Spirituals/ New York Visions
Amazing music. Great tour guide who spoke in French and English. Pointed out all the interesting things that we passed on the tour. Soul food was good and the band, singers and dancers were amazing.
Dear Kathclarinet, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on our Harlem Gospel tour. We are so glad that you enjoyed it! Best regards, Erika Elisabeth Vice President
We visited family in New York and this tour was the best evening of our trip. More than excellent. Our tour guide Peggy made the tour interesting and entertaining. She was very thoughtful to the individual needs. Overall dInner at Sylvia's was good and gave us a chance to taste more than one dish. the cornbread was amazing. On the negative side, dessert was a little rushed. We then went to a small club off the beaten path with an amazing band and soulful singer. People were dancing outside. really a lot of fun and worth the money spent.
Dear Ms. Rebecca, Thank you for taking the time to post such a lovely review about your experience on our Soul Food and Jazz tour. We are glad that you had a great time. Sincerest regards, Erika Elisabeth Vice President
